One third of adults, one fifth of boys and one third of girls in the UK will be classed as obese by 2020 if current trends continue.
Scary reading indeed, but the problem is even worse in the Borough.
Latest figures show one in five reception aged children and one in three year six children are overweight or suffer from childhood obesity.
It’s clear that if we don’t tackle this problem now, it will simply grow, as they grow, and continue to affect the health and well-being of a large percentage of our community.
A new inititaive – Change4Life – aims to improve children’s diets and activity levels.
This will help to reduce any threat to their future health and happiness.
Help families to eat well, move more and live longer are the simple goals.
This will be achieved by promoting children's health and healthy food, encouraging physical activity, supporting healthy workplaces and providing effective treatment and support when people become overweight or obese.
