That’s the message from deputy council leader David Molyneux to everybody with a stake in the future of Wigan borough.
Wigan Council is spearheading a drive to protect the borough’s businesses from the worst of the recession, by urging everyone – residents, public and private organisations alike – to ‘buy local’.
“The economy is in the doldrums”, admits Cllr Molyneux, “there’s no getting away from the fact.
“But if all of us, wherever possible, buy local, together we can shield our town centres, retailers and traders from the worst of what’s to come.”
The ‘Buy Local’ campaign is being rolled out across the borough throughout the spring, with essential information available to residents and businesses alike at Buy Local (external link)
Visitors to the website will be able to find out which local businesses are backing the campaign, plus details of Trading Standards-approved ‘Good Traders’ and ‘Fair Play’ charter members.
Why buy local?
- Supporting local jobs means supporting local income, and local communities.
- Protect the character and diversity of your town centres, from Standish in the north to Tyldesley in the east.
- With your custom, local businesses and traders are more likely to survive, thrive and stay local.
- Local businesses are more likely to be environmentally sustainable – and so are your shopping trips.
