An unusual, almost Gothic image of Wigan Parish Church by Andrew Fishburn of Platt Bridge.
A fiery sun sets behind the windmill at Haigh, taken by Brian Hibbert of Mosley Common. Brian wins the prize for the best picture overall in the judges' opinion.
Just fantastic!
That was the judges’ verdict after looking at 150 entries submitted for Borough Life’s calendar photo competition, details of which were included in our summer and autumn editions.
“We were delighted at the number of people entering the competition. Clearly there are some very talented photographers out there”, said Borough Life editor David Mather.
The judges commented particularly on the number of photos of water areas submitted. From sunlight reflected on flashes to wintry canal shots, our lakes and rivers clearly feed your creative imagination.
Tourism manager Keith Bergman said: “The passion many people feel for their natural surroundings shone through in so many of the entries.”
In the end, while there were some close run decisions, the judges think the calendar will reflect many aspects of our beautiful borough in all seasons, and the pride that the photographers feel for their environment.
Cllr Chris Ready, cabinet member for townships, said: “These photos give a really positive image of our towns and countryside. Well done to everyone who entered and congratulations to the winners. It’s just a pity we couldn’t include more!”
All winners will receive two free copies of the calendar. Brian Hibbery of Mosley Common winsa £100 Jessops token for the photograph judged to be the overall winner.
The winning entries will feature on a superb new calendar, Our Beautiful Borough, which will be on sale from December 1st.
