Local councillors and community safety chiefs are spearheading a new publicity drive urging local residents to shop drug dealing neighbours. Posters and flyers have been appearing in residential areas and on buses across the borough, thanks to an initiative by the Wigan South township.
Community safety chiefs hope the campaign will encourage residents to ‘rat on a rat’ by ringing Crimestoppers’ free, anonymous hotline on 0800 555 111.
Wigan Council’s Cabinet Champion for Neighbourhoods, Councillor Kevin Anderson, says: “Drug dealers fuel crime and ruin lives, but we can only truly tackle them with information – and the best information comes from the people living in the areas blighted by drug use.”
