Rona Winkworth is a mayor on a mission... to put children first.

The Winstanley councillor has been elected the borough’s 36th mayor after sitting on the council for the past 20 years.

As a grandmother of six she has a keen interest in the younger generation and was a long-serving member of the council’s Children and Young People’s panel. And it is this devotion to children which has led her to choice of charity appeal – to raise as much money as possible for the children’s ward at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary.

There will be plenty of fundraising events during Rona’s year of office and you can find out more by contacting the Mayor’s Office on 01942 827156 or e-mail mayorssecretary@wigan.gov.uk
