Borough Life’s calendar competition is returning… by popular demand. And this time we’re giving you more
notice – three months more, in fact!
When we launched the competition to find photos that depicted our beautiful borough last autumn, we
were delighted by the quality and number of images you sent in. The calendar sold out within a week,
and many readers and competitors asked if we’d do it again.
The rules and the overall theme are the same, but this time we’re also inviting our talented amateur
snappers to broaden their approach. Woods and water will always fire people’s imagination but there
are many hidden gems in our towns and villages as well.
As well as the satisfaction of seeing their picture published in our 2009 calendar, winners will receive
six copies of the calendar for themselves. Winning entries will also be published in the winter edition
of Borough Life and be displayed in the window of Wigan’s Tourist Information Centre. And for the person
who submits the picture judged to be the best overall, there’s £100 worth of camera accessories in
the shape of a Jessops token.
Cllr Chris Ready, the council’s cabinet member for communications, says: “When Wigan is in the national
press how often do you see it illustrated by a positive picture?
“Now’s the chance for all amateur photographers to help us celebrate the good things about our towns
and countryside by sending us pictures of their favourite places.”
