Transport connects people to places – places where we work, shop, study, access services and socialise. We are now considering a new transport strategy for Wigan borough to make sure that our plans reflect the needs of local people and businesses. Can you help us shape the future?
Our major public consultation exercise will help shape the future of transport in Greater Manchester’s biggest borough.
Everyone has something to say about transport - and we recognise that there's room for improvement. Over the coming months we'll be talking transport and listening to individuals, local communities and businesses from across the borough about:
- current journeys, travel within the borough and public transport provision;
- future travel requirements, in light of higher fuel costs, the borough’s health issues, and impacts of climate change; and
- what our visions, aspirations and priorities should be for the next 20 years.
What you say will help paint an overall picture of what local communities need and want – and enable us to influence decisions and lobby for the improvements on your behalf.
To provide feedback and comments, please complete our on-line questionnaire (which will take about 10-15 minutes)
If you haven't much time, please could you complete our shortened version (which will only take about 5 minutes)

Your feedback will directly feed into the borough’s emerging transport strategy and will specifically impact on what key actions and priorities we will need to take. This will then enable us to challenge and influence decisions to develop a better transport system, while ensuring that we provide the networks required to connect people to opportunities, and promote economic regeneration.
We intend to finalise the draft transport strategy report by the end of October, submit it to Cabinet for approval, and then start on the delivery of the actions within the report, through the development of various transportation projects and activities. We will continually monitor and review the strategy and action plan, to provide regular updates on progress, the further challenges that may have developed, and to report on the new opportunities that have emerged.
