1 Appointment of Chairman: Resolved: The Committee appoints Councillor D T Molyneux Chairman of this Committee for the ensuing Municipal Year.
2 Appointment of Vice Chairman: Resolved: The Committee appoints Councillor B Merry Vice-Chairman of this Committee for the ensuing Municipal Year.
3 Minutes: The minutes of the meeting of this Committee held on 31 October 2007 were approved as a correct record and signed by the Chairman.
4 Appointment as Honorary Aldermen: The Committee considered a report reminding Members of the criteria which the Council had approved for appointment as Honorary Aldermen. The report listed Members who had left the Council in May 2008 and the Committee considered the service of each of those former Members against the approved criteria.
The report set out details of the alternative option to be considered.
Resolved: (1) The Committee requests the Council to:
- approve the appointment of former Councillors Mrs A Bennett, G Davies, J A O’Neill, A Robinson and B M Wilson as Honorary Aldermen; and
- approves the holding of special meetings of the Council at 7.00 p m on Wednesdays 29 October 2008 and 7 January 2009, for the purposes of formally conferring the title of Honorary Alderman on the abovementioned former Councillors and agrees that Rule of Procedure 1.1 (iii) is suspended to allow the normal meetings of the Council previously fixed for 29 October 2008 and 7 January 2009 to be held following the special meetings.
- approves the provision of appropriate refreshments in the Mayor’s Parlour prior to the special meetings of the Council referred to above.
(2) The Committee agrees that former Councillors I A Franzen, P R Franzen and Mrs B Jarvis do not meet the criteria approved by the Council and consequently are not recommended for appointment as Honorary Aldermen.
