17 Minutes: The minutes of the meeting of this Panel held on 22 May 2008 were approved as a correct record.

The Chairman made reference to:

  • Halle at Robin Park Indoor Arena: In recognition of outstanding performances of children from local schools that had taken part;
  • The Panel should attend school site visits to view facilities within school premises. Panel Members were to recommend which schools to visit; and
  • Future meetings of the Panel will be held in various school and college premises.

18 Equality, diversity and community cohesion issues relating to children and young people, including the recording of hate-incidents: The Panel considered a report that informed Members of:

  • steps taken to eliminate harassment and discrimination, and to promote equality and community cohesion among children and young people; and
  • hate-incidents that involved children and young people recorded during the Spring Term 2008.

Members asked questions, to which the Director of Children and Young People’s Services responded.

Agreed: The Panel notes the report now submitted.

19 Children and Young People's Services quarter 4 - 2007/08 performance report: The Panel considered a report that outlined progress on the Children and Young People’s Plan at the end of quarter 4 of the 2007/08 financial year.

Members asked questions, to which the Director of Children and Young People’s Services responded.

Agreed: The Panel notes the report now submitted.

20 Children and Young People's Plan 2008/11: The Panel considered a report, which had been submitted to Cabinet (minutes 22 refers), showing the amendments made to the plan that Cabinet had agreed.

21 Proposal to amalgamate St Peter's C E Infant School and Nursery Unit and St Peter's C E Junior School, Leigh: The Panel considered a report, which was to be submitted to Cabinet, dealing with the consultation on the proposal and obtaining members responses to the proposal.

Members asked questions, to which the Director of Children and Young People’s Services responded.

Agreed: The Panel endorses the report now submitted.

22 Decision making model for primary schools 2008: The Panel considered a report, which was to be submitted to Cabinet, dealing with the results of the assessment of primary schools against the decision making model for 2008.

23 Review of Advisory Panels and Overview and Scrutiny Select Committees: The Panel considered a joint report which sought Members’ views on a proposed review of the roles of the Advisory Panels and the Overview and Scrutiny Select Committees, which would come into effect for the Municipal Year 2009/10.

The Cabinet had considered the report at minute 36.
