1. Apologies for absence : Councillor P A Tushingham, Councillor H L Cadman.
3. Minutes of last meeting: The minutes of the meeting of this Committee held on 06 February 2008 were approved as a correct record.
4. Townships: Mr J Winterbottom handed out notes he had put together giving an overview of the key issues we had learned since we started the scrutiny of Townships. The key issues we have looked into included: PACTS, Participatory Budgeting, interviewing of Townships staff including managers and coordinators.
Resolved: Mr J Winterbottom and Mrs L Roberts will speak to as many Joint Chairs of Township Forums as possible before the next meeting – to obtain their views.
The Select Committee felt that they needed more clarity about the future role of Townships and who they should direct their recommendations to. The Select Committee will invite Mrs J Redfearn (Chief Executive) to the next meeting.
5. Forward plan for future meetings: Resolved:The Select Committee agreed that we would e-mail ideas for appropriate headings for the report to Mr J Winterbottom. Select Committee also agreed that they would meet again to plan the report. Mrs L Roberts will book a room at Wigan Town Hall and inform all members of the date as soon as possible.
