51 Honorary Alderman Brian Jarvis: It was moved by Councillor K Cunliffe, seconded by Councillor K Anderson and
Resolved: This Council records the eminent services rendered to the Council by Brian Jarvis, a distinguished past Member of the Council.
The title of Honorary Alderman of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan is accordingly conferred on Brian Jarvis.
Brian Jarvis was first elected in 1992 to the Hope Carr Ward and in the year 2000 to Leigh East Ward. He served on the Highways and Works, Planning and Development (later Development Control), Public Protection, Recreation and Amenities, Policy and Social Services Committees as well as Health and Social Services Panel and was a special interest member for Leigh Town Centre. Brian Jarvis was Chairman of the Leigh Town Centre Management Group and Chairman of both the Township of Leigh Forum and the Township of Leigh Safety Group. In 2005, he was installed as the Thirty-third Mayor after being Deputy Mayor during the previous year. He has represented the Council on a number of outside organisations including the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority and the Bridgewater Canal Trust. He has given valuable service to the Council and to the community at large.
Mr Jarvis expressed sincere thanks to the Council for the honour now bestowed upon him.
