5 Apologies for absence: Councillors J A O’Neill (Chairman) and R Winkworth.
6 Minutes: The minutes of the meeting of this Committee held on 5 September 2007 were approved as a correct record and signed by the Chairman.
7 Requests to become Honorary Aldermen: The Committee considered a report reminding Members of the criteria which the Council had approved for the appointment of former Members as Honorary Aldermen.
The report set out details of a request from a former Member of the Council for appointment as an Honorary Alderman. The former Member did not meet the criteria approved by the Council.
In addition, the report gave details of a request for the Committee to reconsider its decision in minute 4 not to confer the title of Honorary Alderman to another former Member of the Council. No additional supporting evidence was submitted.
The report set out details of the alternative option to be considered. The reason for selecting the one recommended was because neither former Member met the criteria approved by the Council.
Resolved: The Committee:-
- agrees that former Councillor J A Eckersley does not meet the criteria approved by the Council and consequently is not recommended for appointment as an Honorary Alderman; and
- re-affirms the previous decision in respect of former Councillor D M Brown.
