This Council records the eminent services rendered to the Council by BRIAN MALCOLM WILSON a distinguished past Member of the Council. The title of Honorary Alderman of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan is accordingly conferred on BRIAN MALCOLM WILSON.
Brian Malcolm Wilson was first elected to the Tyldesley East Ward of Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council in 1986 and later represented the Astley Mosley Common Ward. He has served on the Education Committee and was its Chairman from 1992 until 1999. He has also served on the Finance, Planning and Development, Public Protection, Recreation and Amenities, Policy and Resources and Strategy Committees. He was a Member of the Lifelong Learning Panel (later to become the Children and Young People’s Services Panel) of which he was also the Chairman. He was the Cabinet Champion for Children and Young People’s Services from 2000 to 2008 and was a school governor at Tyldesley Primary School and Tyldesley Fred Longworth High School. He has given valuable service to the Council and to the community at large.
Members are informed that Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 provides that a resolution to confer the title of Honorary Alderman on a person must be passed by not less than two thirds of the Members voting thereon.
