The Annual Meeting of the Council of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan is to be held in the Council Chamber in the Town Hall, Library Street, Wigan on Wednesday, 20 May 2009 at 1.00p.m., for the following purposes, that is to say:
1 To elect the Mayor for the ensuing Municipal Year.
2 Vote of thanks to retiring Mayor.
3 To elect the Deputy Mayor for the ensuing Municipal Year.
At this point, the meeting will adjourn for one hour, Members of the Council and invited guests are asked to make their way to the Charter Suite for refreshments.
Members of the Council will then be asked to return to the Council Chamber after one hour to consider the remaining business.
4 To receive apologies for absence.
5 To receive any announcements from the Mayor, Executive Leader, Members of the Executive or the Head of Paid Service that they may desire to lay before the Council.
6 To elect the Executive Leader.
7 To receive from the Executive Leader, a list of the names, addresses and Wards of the Members appointed by him to the Cabinet and the Membership of Cabinet Committees (.pdf, 32kb).
8 To appoint the Committees, either in accordance with the statutory political balance rules or under an alternative scheme against which there has been no contrary vote. 9 Appointment of Statutory Co-opted Members 2009/10 (.pdf, 44kb).
10 To appoint representatives on Joint Authorities in Greater Manchester and other outside bodies (if any), either in accordance with the statutory political balance rules or under an alternative scheme against which there has been no contrary vote (report to follow).

12 To determine any other issues relating to the operation of Executive Arrangements and the operation of the Council in the ensuing Municipal Year.
