A special meeting of the Council of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan to be held in the Council Chamber at the Town Hall, Library Street, Wigan on Wednesday, 27 February 2008 at 7:00 p.m., such meeting being specially convened in pursuance of the provisions of Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 for the following purposes, that is to say:-
1. Apologies for Absence.
2. To confer upon The Royal Mercian and Lancastrian Yeomanry (the Territorial Army Reserve Unit based in Wigan) the Honorary Freedom of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, that being the highest honour which the Council has the power to bestow.
Members are informed that Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 provides that a resolution to admit a person(s) to be an Honorary Freeman must be passed by not less that two thirds of the Members voting thereon.
