Children's Preventative Services recruit, train and support volunteers from the age of 16 and from all backgrounds to undertake various voluntary roles within Children and Young People's Services, including Befriending.
Befrienders work with children and young people for a pre-agreed limited time. This is usually 6 weeks, but may be extended when befriending young carers, or by agreement. Volunteers provide activities, support and outings, and are matched to services of their choice.
Referrals to the befriending service are made by social care staff following an assessment of the child's needs.
For more information about befriending, contact Children's Preventative Services. To arrange for a social care assessment, contact the Children In Need Duty Team.
