Angers: the French connection

For almost twenty years, Wigan has been twinned with the beautiful French city of Angers, located in the Western part of France. Capital of Anjou and gateway to the Loire Valley, visitors to Angers cannot fail to be impressed by the richness of its heritage and cultural and economic dynamism.

In 1988 Wigan council embarked upon the borough’s first ever twinning, with the capital of Anjou, Angers.

Educational links between Angers Municipal Institute and Leigh College had flourished for many years, but the borough as a whole was one of the last to twin. Since then the twinning has gone from strength to strength, capturing the imagination of organisations from all walks of life, in all parts of the borough.
