Once upon a time there was a province of Anjou originally founded by the Gauls. During the 12th century, Henri Plantagenet, Count of Anjou, Count of Maine and Duke of Normandy, was crowned Henry II of England in Westminster Abbey.
In 1939, Angers was invaded by German troops. Ten years later, General Montsabert bestowed the military cross and bar on the city.
Today, Angers is a scenic and dynamic town. Many projects are put into action: the Quai contemporary arts centre, the tramway, the botanic gardens and much more.
