So what is the COMPACT?
Put simply, it’s the ground rules for joint working between voluntary and community groups and other partners in the Wigan Borough Partnership (WBP). The agreement sets out principles and standards for how we do things. It has been signed up to by the whole of WBP which includes the Council, Primary Care Trust, Hospital Trust, GM Police, Fire Service and a range of community and voluntary organisations.
All of us, to some degree, are able to talk about times when co-operating and supporting each other has made a big difference to the work we've been able to do. Some of us may also be able to point to occasions when things haven't worked as we felt they should. The

gives us the opportunity to highlight where we're working well and where we need to make improvements. It’s an organised way of making our views known about how the public, community and voluntary sectors work together.

November 2007 is National Compact Week. Wigan Borough Partnership is asking all partners to reflect on the local

during this week and to complete a short survey about their own experiences. Later this year the results of the survey will be used to move the

forward in Wigan as a borough.
