Welcome to the Economy, Environment, Culture & Housing Partnership

The Economy, Environment, Culture and Housing Partnership is one of the Thematic Delivery Partnerships within the Local Strategic Partnership for Wigan Borough.

The Partnership has a responsibility to develop and deliver action plans in response to the 4 priorities set out in the Sustainable Community Strategy and Local Area Agreement.

The partnership has a specific responsibility to deliver Outcome 1 of the 2008-2011 Local Area Agreement (LAA). 

Outcome 1: An ambitious community: strong skills that meet business needs and supports sustainable local economy ….where people can get round more easily (and more sustainably)  and live in affordable homes 

The partnership will be working to address the following priorities: 

  • Improve access to sustainable transport, support independence and reduce traffic congestion
  • Reduce the level of worklessness
  • Increase levels of enterprise and inward investment Increase skill levels with reference to business need
  • Increase the overall supply of affordable housing to meet the needs of all its residents and the local economy
  • To strengthen our weaker housing markets by increasing the choice and quality of the housing offer in these localities
  • Improve the management of waste.
  • Improve the Borough's performance in relation to climate change (and prepare to adapt to its impacts)
  • Improving participation and attainment in education, employment and training for 14-19 year olds
