Measuring the impact of what we do

Measuring what is being achieved is not just about counting things, although that is important. It is also about investigating what the impact of the community plan might be on different aspects of life for local people. This work is often called impact assessment.

We tend to look at 3 issues:

  • Health impact - thinking about how what we plan to do will contribute towards improving the health of the population and reducing inequality
  • Environmental impact - checking that economic and social changes are in balance with the environment
  • Diversity and equality impact - being sure that all members of our community, whatever their background, have similar life opportunities and get on well together

We use the 7 elements of the social identity model to describe the various groups within our population that may experience discrimination.

These are:

  • Class
  • Age
  • Disability
  • Race
  • Gender
  • Sexuality
  • Religion

We have small teams of people from across the Borough who look in detail at the Community Plan - helping to identify where further work needs to be done to tackle issues that might to have emerged in the original planning.
