The Home Watch scheme is a partnership between the community, Greater Manchester Police, Wigan Council and various other organisations - working together to make our neighbourhoods safer by helping people protect themselves and their property, and to reduce the fear of crime.
Your Home Watch scheme
Home Watch schemes give residents an opportunity to play an active part in helping make their neighbourhoods safer and their homes more secure.
Residents in areas where Home Watch schemes exist work in close partnership with their Neighbourhood Police Teams, Wigan Council teams and other agencies at a grass-roots level.
Not only are residents able to receive crime reduction advice and tips from the experts, those living in Home Watch neighbourhoods may also be eligible for discounts on their home insurance.
Residents living in Home Watch areas are encouraged to be vigilant, particularly in respect of people acting in a suspicious manner. The local Neighbourhood Policing Team can offer advice on how to spot and report suspicious behaviour.
To reduce the attractiveness of their homes to the opportunist thief, householders are given personal advice on how to improve their security. They are also encouraged to look after the homes of other scheme members when they are away.
As part of the Home Watch scheme, members are also urged to mark their property with post coding equipment.
