Securing your own home and property is probably the most important crime reduction activity you can undertake. There is clear evidence that shows that security measures reduce the risk of your home or property being burgled or thieved. Homes without any security are most at risk of Burglary. The other key statistic on Burglary is that around a quarter of all burglaries take place with someone getting in through an unlocked or left ajar door or window.

What you can do
- Key operated locks should be fitted to all your windows and doors, make sure you keep them closed and locked when you’re out!
- Fit good quality deadlocks to your exterior doors.
- Fit a light timer devise for your main rooms
- Install a movement sensitive light outside your external doors.
- Have a chain and peep hole on your front door
- Fit a letterbox restrictor to prevent people stealing mail or accessing your locks.
- Keep your keys out of view but in an easily accessible place.
- Ask for callers identification
- Fitting a Burglar alarm will greatly improve your household security.
- Protectively mark your valuable property
