The Dawn Patrol service is a National Lottery funded project, run by the British Red Cross in postcode areas WN1, WN2 & WN3 of Wigan.
This free service is aimed at helping older people remain independent and in their own homes for as long as possible, and provides an additional support to any care package they may already be receiving.
Red Cross staff telephone clients each weekday morning to check they are safe and well, and take appropriate action if the client cannot be contacted. Clients can be referred to other partner agencies who may be able to help them with other issues they may have.
Additionally, there are regular, organised, coffee mornings. These also are free and are open to clients, friends & family. The coffee mornings offer a chance to socialise and make new friends.
Dawn Patrol also aims to educate young children by going into schools and talking about the problems faced by older people, and to help bridge the intergenerational gap.
