The two most common reasons to re-register a child’s birth are:-
- The child’s parents have married each other after the child’s birth.
- The child has been registered without father’s details and the mother and father have now decided they would like the fathers details included in the birth entry.
In these circumstances the couple need to complete a form and send it to the register office.
Where parents have married each other after the child’s birth you should ask for and complete Form LA1
To have fathers details included after registration you should ask for and complete Form 185
There are other reasons for a child’s birth to be re-registered please contact the register office for more advice.
Please note
There is no provision in law to re-register a child’s birth solely because the child’s name has been changed by deed poll or by statutory declaration.
