It is an unfortunate fact, that our most vulnerable members of the community are frequently targeted by doorstep traders who often persuade them to have work done. In some cases this work may be either unnecessary, overpriced or of very poor quality.
We have “Doorstep Packs” that contain lots of useful tips and information on how to deal with these often unwanted callers. To get one of these packs, telephone 01942 827476, email ts@wigan.gov.uk, or write to Trading Standards at Unity House, Westwood Park Drive, Wigan, WN3 4HE.
We carry out lots of events to raise awareness of these problems, and we work in partnership with lots of other agencies in the borough, including the Police, Age Concern and Victim Support.
We will do our utmost to respond immediately to incidents where you have an unwanted trader at your door. We have set up a number of "No Cold Calling Zones" (NCCZ's) (.pdf, 175kb) to help reduce doorstep crime in the borough.
