The Consumer Challenge Quiz
The Consumer Challenge Quiz is a special event for children with learning difficulties. The teams face questions on a variety of subjects including consumer rights, signs and symbols, organisations which can help, how to complain and food matters. This helps to raise their awareness of consumer issues and their rights.
The above quiz was held at Tameside Town Hall on 16 March 2011 .
The entrants in the Greater Manchester Regional Final were from Wigan, Trafford, Bolton, Oldham and Tameside.
It was a very exciting challenge and ultimately the final was won by our Wigan team from Newbridge Learning Community College, Platt Bridge, Wigan.
As a result the team went to the Trading Standards Annual Conference in Bournemouth for the national final where students from across the United Kingdom were competing for a chance to win a challenge cup and prizes. Next year the national final is to be held in Manchester.
Our team were brilliant, winning at the regional finals and then competed against five teams at the national finals. This resulted in them gaining third place and each being awarded various prizes including £25 worth of High Street vouchers and a Fujifilm compact digital camera. All the teams competing receive medals and certificates and the prizes are donated from local businesses and shops.
Next year’s competition promises to be a very popular event and if you have any questions about this or any other of the competitions, please call Jean Glover on 01942 489641.
