“What Makes Wigan Work?” Conference 1
On the 23 May 2008, Wigan Council and the Faith Network organised the “What Makes Wigan Work?” Conference at the JJB Stadium in Wigan. Over 80 people attended the full day event contributing to a series of workshops that informed the development of the strategy. Background documents from the event are available for download:

Last year’s conference was the start of an extensive consultation process which informed the development of the Borough’s strategy for addressing the high levels of worklessness, poor skill levels and low levels of enterprise. In September of last year, the strategy was approved by the Wigan Borough Partnership and work immediately commenced on implementing the action plan utilising the new commissioning approach.
The principle objective of this year’s Conference was to inform the development of a refreshed action plan in response to the impact of the economic downturn on the Borough.
The conference also provided an opportunity to discuss the progress of implementing the strategy over the last 12 months and to reflect on some individual and collective success stories.
Over 100 people attended the event at the JJB Stadium in Wigan, which was once again organised by Wigan Council and partners. The conference was made up of a series of presentations and workshops, with background documents available for download:
