This will include establishing new sector forums for the 3 sectors with sector specific action plans. Capacity building will be delivered by supporting the businesses collectively and individually in identifying and capitalising on business opportunities including those brought about through collaboration. For example developing joint ventures, joint procurement, tendering severally or collectively for opportunities including those in the public sector. Support will aide in identifying new customers and commercial opportunities, supply chain issues, areas where action is advisable to protect the business’ such as the legislatory pressures of employment law and by bringing companies together with many other bodies/schemes who can support them such as Train to Gain and Access to Finance services available through Business Link.

Work is currently ongoing to develop websites for the ICT Digital sector and Environmental Technology sector. Details will be made available once these websites are launched.

Working with Wigan’s key existing and growth sectors our Sector Development project continues apace.
Focusing on collaborative networks and one-to-one consultancy from experts in the various sectors, we have several up and coming events:-
For the Creative Sector an event on 23 June in Platt Bridge will focus on ‘maximizing your potential’ helping you to create a promotional blog for your company at the event itself! To book a place at this event visit the Creative Wigan (External link) website.

New links are being made with the Waste Sector not only as part of our environmental network but also to grow a specific sector network of their own with the express aim of creating good practice working, in partnership Wigan Council’s Waste and Planning Departments to jointly create 21st Century provision of waste processing and recycling services in the Borough.
