SQW Consulting, supported by QA Research, was commissioned in May 2008 by Wigan Council to undertake a final evaluation of Phase 1of the North West Coalfield Communities Regeneration Programme.
The programme invested some £21million between 2004 and 2008 across former coalfield communities within eight districts in the North West region, with the overarching objective of narrowing the gap in prosperity, and improving the well-being, of these communities. Some £5million of this investment was provided by the North West Development Agency (NWDA) as the core funder of the programme.
