Wigan Council provides a school crossing patrol service to assist children, parents and guardians to get to and from school safely. Although the council is not obliged to offer this service, it is regarded as an important aspect of road safety.
MetroFresh are responsible for over a hundred school crossing patrols, mobile and standby patrol staff, in Wigan Borough.
Patrol staff work near to schools on recognised crossing routes which are carefully prioritised to ensure that the busiest sites are covered. There is always a need to recruit more patrol staff to provide cover, particularly if a permanent patrol is unavailable, and to ensure as many sites as possible have their own patrol - but we need the support of the community to assist us in this task.
If you, or a friend or relative are interested in becoming a patrol, please contact us for an informal discussion.
We will provide full details of pay, training and uniforms. The current team of patrols come from all walks of life, with people in their 20s through to their 70s, so there are plenty of opportunities for you to become a valued member of the school's and the children's local community.
