Debbie Clarke, Service Manager for MetroFresh at Wigan Council, said:
"MetroFresh are members of the Local Authority Caterers Association (LACA) and as such we take the standard of the food we supply to children very seriously and always conform to the strictest food safety guidelines.
When the news of the issues with beef supplies to supermarkets broke we acted immediately to ensure that the food we provide in schools is unaffected. Although we only use a small number of beef products, we received immediate assurance that the products supplied to us do not come from the affected suppliers or distributors. As an extra precaution, some of our suppliers have tested their products and have produced clarification that none of the products supplied to us are affected in any way."
