The Healthy Business Award is about making it easier for everyone to make a healthier choice.
Many people eat out regularly, whether it be a quick snack, lunch whilst at work or a meal out with friends at a restaurant. It is however, sometimes difficult to find a healthier food choice when eating out.
To make this easier we are working with food outlets across the borough to provide a range of tasty healthier food that you will want to eat. We are acknowledging their success by presenting them with a Healthy Business Award.
You can be confident that the award winners are working hard, doing their best for you by using healthier ingredients and cooking methods right across their menus. By choosing to eat at an award winning premises you are making a healthier lifestyle choice.
To gain the HBA businesses must have:
- Good standards of food hygiene and safety – we provide ongoing free training opportunities for staff to maintain and improve their food knowledge.
- Good practice when preparing food and the provision of healthier food choices.
- Promotion of healthier food choices and information for customers to help them make good choices.
The Healthy heart logo clearly identifies healthiest food choices that have been prepared using both healthier ingredients and cooking methods.
These recipes have been analysed and have met the standards set out by the award stating that the food must contain no Red (high levels) and no more than 2 Amber (medium levels) of either fat, saturated fat, salt or sugar.
The levels used are based on Food Standards Agency’s Traffic Light Labelling System indicating the amount of fat, saturated fat, salt and sugar contained in food.
If you want to see the result of the analysis and measure the amount the calories, fat, salt and sugar you are about to eat just ask the business.
You will know if a premises holds an award because it will display the HBA certificate and window logo. So next time you’re eating out whether it be a quick snack or an evening out at a restaurant just look for the HBA logo and healthier choices heart.
