Are you ready for the new Food Safety Regulations?
The Community Protection Department can help you make sure your business complies with the new requirements which came into force in January 2006.
Food hygiene law is changing as our rules are being replaced by new laws that will apply across the European Union. New requirements came in on the 1 January 2006 that affect your business. These are contained in The Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006.
From your point of view as a food business proprietor you must continue to;
- Handle food hygienically
- Train staff and
- Make sure your premises is maintained in good condition.
The main change is that you must write down how you make sure food is safe. You will also need to keep some records of the checks you carry out to show that procedures are working.
During visits our officers will explain what you need to do to comply with the changes.
Many businesses have already recorded their procedures and are keeping records.
If you do not have a suitable system the Food Standards Agency has produced a very useful pack for caterers which you can obtain free of charge. It's called Safer Food Better Business (SFBB)
The SFBB pack of procedures (which includes a diary to record your checks) can be obtained in one of the following ways.
