Hypnotism

If you wish to show, demonstrate or perform a hypnotism act in public in the Wigan Borough you must have authorisation from Wigan Council.

Meaning of Hypnotism:- "Hypnotism" includes hypnotism, mesmerism and any similar act or process which produces or is intended to produce in any person any form of induced sleep or trance in which the susceptibility of the mind of that person to suggestion or direction is increased or intended to be increased but does not include hypnotism, mesmerism or any such similar act or process which is self-induced (Hypnotism Act 1952 section 6).

Apply for Authorisation

Public Register No. The legislation does not require a register to be kept.
Application Process

Applications should be submitted at least 30 days before the performance using the details given below. However, consent will only be granted if the applicant is able to demonstrate compliance with the Council's conditions.

Target Completion You can expect to be contacted by the Licensing Section within 14 days of receipt of your application. We would normally expect to let you know our decision on your application within 30 days of receipt.
Will Tacit Consent Apply?

Yes. This means that you will be able to act as though your application is granted if you have not heard from the Licensing Section by the end of the target completion period.

We would always advise that in the event of a complaint the first contact is made with the trader by you - preferably in the form a letter (with proof of delivery).
