The Economic Development Team supports the ongoing development of the local economy by bringing sites forward for development.
The Foundation Economic Development Zone is a major regeneration scheme funded by the European Regional Development Fund. The scheme incorporates five brownfield sites which have remained undeveloped. The financial assistance will enable these sites to be brought forward for development, offering attractive business premises for expanding and relocating companies. Three of these sites are now coming forward as exciting opportunities:
- Westwood Park is a 44 hectare site located close to Wigan town centre and less than 2 miles from Junction 25 of the M6 motorway. The mixture of size, location and natural environment has created a first class opportunity for a prestigious business park.
- Wigan Pier Quarter is a major regeneration scheme covering 12 hectares and is located a mile from Wigan town centre within an attractive canal corridor. The aspiration is to create an innovative mixed development. The combination of existing built heritage with regeneration lead contemporary development will create a distinctive area which is unique and exciting for the borough.
- Pemberton Business Park is a major development opportunity located less than two miles from junction 25 of the M6 motorway. 14 hectares are available for development including high quality office accommodation and light industrial use.
