Free School Meals

Parents who are on low income can apply for free school meals for their children.

Children whose parents receive the following support payments are entitled to receive free school meals:

  • Income Support;
  • Income Based Jobseekers Allowance;
  • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance;
  • support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999; or
  • Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs) that as of  April 2009 does not exceed £16,040.
  • The Guaranteed element of pension credit

To get help with the form you can visit your local Wigan and Leigh Housing office, Council Tax Offices in Whelley, Leigh Town Hall or Wigan Civic Centre at Millgate, Wigan.

Forms are also available from the following libraries: Abram, Ashton, Aspull, Atherton, Golborne, Ince, Orrell and Standish.

If you are a tenant of one the following Housing Associations you can visit their offices:

  • Arena Housing, Coops Foyer, Chequer Street, Wigan
  • Adactus Housing, Turner House, King Street, Leigh
  • English Churches Housing, 82 Railway Road, Leigh
