The ASA was set up in 1962 to make sure that non-broadcast advertisements appearing in the UK are legal, decent, honest and truthful.
The Authority protects the public by ensuring that the rules in the British Codes of Advertising and Sales Promotion are followed by everyone who prepares and publishes advertisements. |

The National Association of CABx operates an advice website. Citizens' Advice Bureaux provide a wide ranging advice service including advice on housing, money and other problems as well as consumer problems. |

The DMA is a trade organisation for companies involved in direct marketing. It offers facilities and information on how to avoid receiving unwanted mail, phone calls or faxes. Be aware that it is unable to do anything about direct marketing by non-members, though. |
