Roadworks Bulletin

The aim of this bulletin is to give the public advance notice of road works in the Wigan Council area. The Council recognises that roadworks can cause inconvenience and it is hoped that this information helps to minimise delays and other problems associated with the works. Every effort has been made to provide accurate and the most up to date information available but it is not intended to be a definitive list and cannot cater for works carried out at short notice. The Council also reserves the right to make changes to the programme if emergencies arise.

1. Hough Lane, Tyldesley

National Grid have now completed the work on the high pressure gas main. However, it will be necessary to extend the current road closure in order to construct the busway crossing point at this location.

To carry out these works safely a road closure will be in operation until 30 November 2014.

The diversion route for traffic will be: Sale Lane, Mosley Common Road, East Lancashire Road, Chaddock Lane, Manchester Road.

2. Spinning Jenny Way, Leigh

Bus priority works are proposed in Leigh town centre.

The start date for the main construction works is the 7 July 2014 for approximately 20 weeks finishing in November 2014.

Arches Car Park – from Monday 25 August 2014 for approximately 6 weeks - works will be undertaken to upgrade and increase the capacity and in order to undertake this work safely it will be necessary to close the car park. Visitors and permit holders will be directed to surrounding car parks.

The site compound has been located on land between Spinning Jenny Way, Chapel Street and Brown Street South.

Chapel Street is now permanently closed between Brown Street South and Princess Street.

The northerly footway on Spinning Jenny Way has been temporarily closed between Brown Street South and Lord Street South.

Saturday 11 October 2014 - The shrubs along Spinning Jenny Way adjacent to Spinning Gate Shopping Centre will be removed and in order to undertake these works safely the footway adjacent to the shrubs will need to be closed.  Pedestrians will be safely directed round the working areas using existing crossing points.  The works are expected to commence at 08.00hrs and will take approximately 6 hours to complete.  Pedestrian access to the bus station may be restricted between 08:00hrs and 09:00hrs.

The utility companies have now finished diverting their underground services; however BT will be in the area over the next few weeks connecting telephone lines to the new telegraph poles.

At present there will be no major activity on site and therefore no disruption to traffic.

Throughout the scheme the traffic management will change and updates will be provided.

3. Mealhouse Lane, Atherton

Bus priority works are proposed in Atherton town centre. The roads that will be affected are Mealhouse Lane, Alma Street, Flapper Fold Lane, St John Street, Bolton Road and Water Street.

The site compound has been set up on the Market Place to the rear of St John’s Church. The start date for the main construction works is the 7 July 2014 for approximately 14 weeks finishing in October 2014.

Mealhouse Lane – Week commencing Monday 13 October 2014 lane closures will be in place to enable works to be undertaken safely. There will also be a need to close Mealhouse Lane at the junction with Bolton Road (Bolton bound) on Thursday 16 October 2014  in order to undertake works on the carriageway. A local diversion will be in place.

Lining of the car park adjacent to Mealhouse Lane and Flapper Fold Lane will take place on Sunday 12 October 2014 to minimise disruption to residents and businesses.

Throughout the scheme the traffic management will change and updates will be provided.

4. Elliott Street, Tyldesley

Bus priority works are proposed in Tyldesley town centre. The roads that will be affected are Elliott Street, Astley Street, Stanley Street and Railway Street. The first stage will consist of utilities services being diverted. The utilities works have now started on site and these works are expected to be completed by July 2014.

Access to all properties and businesses will be maintained during the works.

The start date for the main construction works is still to be confirmed.

Ducting works by BT Openreach are now complete and they will be installing a junction box in Stanley Street over the next few weeks.

Virgin Media will be installing cables in the Square (across the end of Stanley Street) and Stanley Street / Shuttle Street junction between Tuesday 21 October 2014 and Monday 27 October 2014.

Throughout the scheme the traffic management will change and updates will be provided.

5. Astley Street, Tyldesley

TfGM will be carrying out the construction of plant protection works. Temporary traffic signals will be in operation from Monday 31 March 2014 on a part time basis.

6. Holden Road, Leigh

TfGM will be carrying out the construction of plant protection works. Temporary traffic signals will be in operation from Tuesday 6 May 2014 on a part time basis.

7. Well Street, Tyldesley

TfGM will be carrying out the construction of plant protection works. Temporary traffic signals will be in operation from Tuesday 6 May 2014 on a part time basis.

8. Sale Lane, Tyldesley

TfGM will be carrying out the construction of plant protection works near to the junction with Chester Road. Temporary traffic signals will be in operation from Monday 31 March 2014 on a part time basis.

9. Passageway between 28 & 30 and the adopted passage to the rear of 24-28 Gerard Street, Ashton in Makerfield

Wigan Council will be undertaking works to demolish and remove unsafe steps and the construction of new steps. Also the installation of bollards and laying of anti-slip surfacing of the demarcated pedestrian walkway. To undertake these works safely a road closure will be in place from Monday 8 September 2014 for 9 weeks.

10. The Avenue / Hanover Street / Elmridge, Leigh

United Utilities will carry out major works to construct a rising main from Tuesday 26 August 2014. To undertake their works safely road closures will be in operation until the end of November 2014. 

The Avenue: A road closure will be in operation from outside of property number 202 to approximately 50m north of its junction with Elmridge from Monday 29 September 2014

Hanover Street: A road closure will be in operation from the junction with The Avenue to the junction with Holden Road from Thursday 18 September 2014

Elmridge: A road closure will be in operation from the junction with The Avenue to the Lions Bridge pumping station from Monday 29 September 2014

Local diversions will be in place.

11. Holden Road, Leigh

United Utilities will be carrying out works to construct a manhole cover for a new rising main at the junction of Hanover Street. Temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Monday 22 September 2014 and Thursday 6 November 2014. (Date changed from last week)

12. Wigan Road, Standish

Wigan Council will be carrying out carriageway patching works between Chorley Road and Grove Lane from  Monday 6 October 2014 2014 until Tuesday 21 October 2014. To undertake these works safely a lane close will be in place and the bus lane will be suspended during off peak hours. (Date changed from last week)

13. Downall Green Road, Ashton in Makerfield

Electricity North West will be carrying out cable diversion works near to the junction with Soughers Lane between Wednesday 8 October 2014 and Monday 20 October 2014. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation during these works. (Date changed from last week)

14. Westleigh Lane, Leigh

United Utilities will be carrying out connection works near to the junction with Aldred Street between Saturday 11 October 2014 and Tuesday 21 October 2014. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation during these works.

15. Booths Brow Road, Ashton in Makerfield

Electricity North West will be carrying out works to install a service near to the junction with Brocstedes Road. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Monday 13 October 2014 and Friday 24 October 2014. (Date changed from last week)

16. Platt Lane / Atherton Road, Hindley

United Utilities will be carrying out service connection works at the junction of Platt Lane and Atherton Road between Monday 13 October 2014 and Friday 17 October 2014. To undertake these works safely Stop/Go Boards will be in operation during off peak hours.

17. Bradley Lane, Standish

United Utilities will be carrying out works to install a fire hydrant outside of the Scrap Yard between Tuesday 14 October 2014 and Monday 20 October 2014. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation during these works.

18. Morris Street / Greenough Street, Wigan

A private contractor will be undertaking remedial carriageway surfacing works on Thursday 16 October 2014 and Friday 17 October 2014.  To undertake these works safely Morris Street will be closed from its junction with Greenough Street to the junction with Windmill Close.  There will also be a  lane closure on Greenough Street.

19. Chorley Road, Standish

United Utilities will be carrying out works to install a fire hydrant near to the junction with Fairhurst Lane. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation on Thursday 16 October 2014 and Friday 17 October 2014.

20. Chapel Lane, Wigan

Network Rail will be carrying out works to install safety railings at the Railway Bridge on Chapel Lane. To undertake these works safely lane closures will be in operation between 22:00hrs on Saturday 18 October 2014 and 06:00hrs on Sunday 19 October 2014.

21. Wigan Road, Standish

United Utilities will undertake works to install two fire hydrants near to the junction with Boars Head Avenue. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation on Saturday 18 October 2014 and Sunday 19 October 2014.

22. Old Road, Ashton in Makerfield

Electricity North West will be carrying out works to install a new service outside of the former Police Station. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Saturday 18 October 2014 and Friday 31 October 2014.

23. Ormskirk Road, Wigan

United Utilities will undertake works to replace a manhole cover and frame at the junction with Norley Hall Avenue on Sunday 19 October 2014. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation during these works.

24. Bickershaw Lane, Bickershaw

United Utilities will undertake works to repair a leaking service near to the junction with Atherton Street on Sunday 19 October 2014. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation during these works.

25. Ince Green Lane, Ince

Network Rail will be carrying out survey works on the Railway Bridge on Sunday 19 October 2014. To undertake these works safely a road closure will be in place.

The diversion route for traffic will be: Warrington Road, Darlington Street East, Manchester Road

26. Warrington Road, Abram

BT will undertake works to renew a service at the junction with Bickershaw Lane on Sunday 19 October 2014. To undertake these works safely Stop/Go boards will be in operation during these works.

27. Swan Lane, Hindley Green

United Utilities will undertake works to replace two manhole covers and frames on Sunday 19 October 2014. To undertake these works safely a road closure will be in place between Green Lane and Coupland Road.

A local diversion will be in place.

28. Pemberton Road and Holmes House Avenue, Winstanley

Wigan Council will be carrying out carriageway resurfacing works on Pemberton Road between Holmes House Avenue and No. 164 and on Holmes House Avenue from Pemberton Road to No. 1 on Sunday 19 October 2014 and Sunday 26 October 2014.  To undertake these works safely a road closure will be in operation. 

A local diversion will be in place.

29. Miles Lane, Appley Bridge

United Utilities will be carrying out installation works near to the junction with Back Lane. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Monday 20 October 2014 and Wednesday 22 October 2014.

30. Chorley Road, Standish

United Utilities will be carrying out works to install a fire hydrant near to the junction with Water Drive. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Monday 20 October 2014 and Friday 24 October 2014.

31. Liverpool Road, Platt Bridge

United Utilities will be carrying out works to renew a service near to the junction with Neville Street. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Monday 20 October 2014 and Friday 24 October 2014.

32. Moss Road, Billinge

Wigan Council will be carrying out carriageway resurfacing works on Moss Road between property number 86 and Doric Green. To undertake these works safely a road closure will be in operation between Monday 20 October 2014 and Friday 24 October 2014. 

A local diversion will be in place.

33. Standishgate, Wigan

United Utilities will be carrying out works to install a new water meter and rebuild chambers on Standishgate between its junction with Powell Street and its junction with Brick Kiln Lane. To undertake these works safely a road closure will be in operation between Monday 20 October 2014 and Monday 3 November 2014. 

The diversion route for traffic will be: Powell Street, Central Park Way, Wigan Lane

34. Church Lane, Shevington

United Utilities will be carrying out works to install a new service near to the junction with Central Drive. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Tuesday 21 October 2014 and Monday 27 October 2014.

35. Warrington Road, Wigan

Telecommunication works are currently being undertaken outside of Total Fitness. To undertake these works safely a lane closure will be in operation on Tuesday 21 October 2014 during off peak hours.

36. Chorley Road, Standish

United Utilities will be carrying out water mains cleaning works along Chorley Road. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation between 20:00hrs on Wednesday 22 October 2014 and 07:00hrs on Thursday 23 October 2014 near to Fairhurst Lane and Greenways.

The temporary traffic signals will then be in operation between 20:00hrs on Thursday 23 October 2014 and 07:00hrs on Friday 24 October 2014 near to Fairhurst Lane and Rectory Lane.

 

 

 

Forthcoming roadworks and closures

Wigan Road, Standish

United Utilities will undertake works to install a fire hydrant near to the junction with Mere Oaks on Sunday 26 October 2014. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation during these works.

Ince Green Lane, Ince

United Utilities will undertake works to replace a manhole cover and frame at the junction with Church Street on Sunday 26 October 2014. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation during these works.

Leigh Road, Hindley Green

Electricity North West will undertake connection works at the junction with Atherton Road on Sunday 26 October 2014. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation during these works.

Rectory Lane, Standish

Network Rail will be carrying out de-vegetation works overnight on the Railway Bridge from Monday 27 October 2014 to Saturday 1 November 2014.  To undertake these works safely a road closure will be in place  between 22:00hrs and 06:00hrs.

The diversion route for traffic will be: Chorley Road, Wigan Road, High Street, Market Street

Bradley Lane, Standish

United Utilities will be carrying out water mains cleaning works outside of Bradley Hall Trading Estate. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation between 19:00hrs and 07:00hrs on Monday 27 October 2014 and Tuesday 28 October 2014.

Chorley Road, Standish

United Utilities will be carrying out works to install a new service near to the junction with Bores Meadow. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Monday 27 October 2014 and Friday 7 November 2014.

Princess Road, Ashton in Makerfield

Wigan Council will be carrying out carriageway resurfacing works on Princess Road between Captains Lane and Duke Street. To undertake these works safely a road closure will be in operation between Monday 27 October 2014 and Friday 31 October 2014. 

A local diversion will be in place.

Warrington Road, Wigan

Electricity North West will undertake works to install a new service near to the junction with Hildyard Street on Tuesday 28 October 2014. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation during these works.

Wigan Road, Standish

United Utilities will be carrying out works to repair a leaking service near to the junction with Victoria Crescent. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Tuesday 28 October 2014 and Thursday 30 October 2014.

Bradley Lane, Standish

Electricity North West will be carrying out cable reinforcement works outside of Bradley Hall Trading Estate. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation from Wednesday 29 October 2014 for approximately four weeks.

Prescott Street, Wigan

TfGM will be undertaking works at the Railway Bridge to recut the detector loops to the traffic signals on Sunday 2 November 2014.  To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation during these works.
