Roadworks bulletin

The aim of this bulletin is to give the public advance notice of road works in the Wigan Council area. The Council recognises that roadworks can cause inconvenience and it is hoped that this information helps to minimise delays and other problems associated with the works. Every effort has been made to provide accurate and the most up to date information available but it is not intended to be a definitive list and cannot cater for works carried out at short notice. The Council also reserves the right to make changes to the programme if emergencies arise.

1. Hough Lane, Tyldesley

The main construction works are substantially complete and the road has re-opened.  However TfGM will be carrying out works between Monday 5 January 2015 and Friday 3 July 2015. Temporary traffic signals will be in operation on a part time basis for heavy plant crossings.

2. Spinning Jenny Way, Leigh

The traffic signals at the new junction were switched on on Thursday 18th December 2014.

The vast majority of the 60 trees have been planted and the remaining ones will be installed early in the New Year.

Building of the bus stop lay-by adjacent to Tesco and the bus stop pole will be installed in January.

Works will cease on Friday 19th December, however, the site compound will remain and some fencing will be retained on site until early in the New Year.  All areas of the site will be left in a safe, clean and tidy manner for the Christmas break.  There will be no lane restrictions or road closures over the Christmas period. 

Works will recommence on Monday 5th January and should be completed within the month.

3. Mealhouse Lane, Atherton

Bus priority works are proposed in Atherton town centre. The roads that will be affected are Mealhouse Lane, Alma Street, Flapper Fold Lane, St John Street, Bolton Road and Water Street.

The main construction works are substantially complete, however there are some traffic signs and markings that still need to be completed.

Throughout the scheme the traffic management will change and updates will be provided.

4. Astley Street, Tyldesley

TfGM will be carrying out works between Upper George Street and Standish Street and in order to undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in use from Tuesday 2 December 2014 until Thursday 4 December 2014 and from Monday 8 December 2014 single lane running will be in operation north bound from Astley towards Tyldesley. During the Christmas break this work will be suspended and the traffic will run in both directions.

Throughout the scheme the traffic management will change and updates will be provided.

5. Railway Street, Tyldesley

Wigan Council will commence works on Monday 8 December 2014 to install parking bays on Railway Street and Lemon Street.  These works are in conjunction with the Bus priority works.  The works are expected to take approximately 8 weeks to complete.

6. Holden Road, Leigh

TfGM will be carrying out works to construct the traffic controlled junctions near to Rosebury Avenue. In order to undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Monday 5 January 2015 and Friday 10 April 2015.

7. Well Street, Tyldesley

TfGM will be carrying out works to construct the traffic controlled junctions between Railway Passage and Garden Street. Temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Monday 5 January 2015 and Monday 27 July 2015.

8. Sale Lane, Tyldesley

TfGM will be carrying out the construction of plant protection works near to the junction with Chester Road. Temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Monday 5 January 2015 and Friday 13 March 2015 on a part time basis.

9. The Avenue / Hanover Street / Elmridge, Leigh

United Utilities will carry out major works to construct a rising main from Tuesday 26 August 2014. To undertake their works safely road closures will be in operation until the end of November 2014. 

The Avenue: A road closure will be in operation from outside of property number 202 to approximately 50m north of its junction with Elmridge from Monday 29 September 2014 for 23 weeks.

In addition to the above temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Hanover Street and Lake Street from Thursday 20 November 2014 until Tuesday 23 December 2014.

Hanover Street: A road closure will be in operation from the junction with The Avenue to the junction with Holden Road from Thursday 18 September 2014 for 24 weeks.

Elmridge: A road closure will be in operation from the junction with The Avenue to the Lions Bridge pumping station from Monday 5 January 2015 for 12 weeks

Local diversions will be in place.

10. Walkden Avenue, Wigan

Electricity North West will be carrying out high voltage cable reinforcement works between the junction of Kenyon Road and Buckley Street from Thursday 4th December to Friday 19th December. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation.

11. Swan Lane, Hindley Green

BT will be carrying out works to install a new service near to the junction with Athol Crescent. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Tuesday 16 December 2014 and Saturday 20 December 2014 during off peak times.

12. Preston Road, Standish

United Utilities will be carrying out works to install a new service near to the junction with Ludlow Street. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Monday 5 January 2015 and Wednesday 7 January 2015 during off peak times.

13. Chorley Road, Standish

BT will be carrying out works near to the junction with Red Rock Lane. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Monday 5 January 2015 and Wednesday 7 January 2015 during off peak times.

14. Holmes House Avenue, Winstanley

Wigan Council will be carrying out carriageway repairs at the junction with Tan House Drive, on Sunday 21st December 2014. In order to carry out this work safely 3 way temporary traffic lights will be in operation.

15. Leigh Road, Leigh

Transport for Greater Manchester will be carrying out works to recut the detector loops to the traffic signals at the junction with Kirkhall Lane between Wednesday 7 January 2015 and Thursday 8 January 2015.  In order to undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation at off peak hours.

16. Kenyon Lane, Lowton

United Utilities will be carrying out works to renew service, in the footway and carriageway near to number 31 on Friday 26th December to Tuesday 30th December. In order for this work to be done safely two way temporary traffic signals will be in operation.

Forthcoming roadworks and closures

Liverpool Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield

Transport for Greater Manchester will be carrying out works to recut the detector loops to the traffic signals at the junction with Warrington Road on Sunday 11 January 2015.  In order to undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation.

Nook Lane, Golborne

A private contractor will be undertaking utility connection works  to a new development near to the junction with Tanners Lane between Monday 12 January 2015 and Friday 23 January 2015.  In order to undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation and they will be manned at peak hours.

Ashton Road, Billinge, Wigan Road, Billinge and Pemberton Road, Billinge

Wigan Council will be undertaking carriageway resurfacing works at the junction of Ashton Road, Billinge, Wigan Road, Billinge and Pemberton Road, Billinge on Sunday 11 January 2015.  To undertake these works safely there will be temporary traffic signals on Ashton Road, Billinge and road closures will be in operation on Wigan Road, Billinge and Pemberton Road, Billinge.  Local diversions will be in place.

Whelley, Wigan

Electricity North West will be carrying out works to install a new service near to the junction with Vine Street. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Saturday 10 January 2015 and Monday 19 January 2015.

St Helens Road, Leigh

United Utilities will be carrying out works to renew a service near to the junction with Walter Leigh Way. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Monday 12 January 2015 and Friday 16 January 2015.

Wigan Road, Golborne

United Utilities will be carrying out works to replace a manhole cover and frame near to Aye Bridge Farm on Saturday 17 January 2015. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation during these works.

Chaddock Lane, Worsley

United Utilities will be carrying out works to install a new service outside of Chaddock Hall on Sunday 18 January 2015. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation during these works.

Frog Lane, Wigan

United Utilities will be carrying out works to disconnect a service opposite Markland Court on Sunday 18 January 2015. To undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation during these works.

Westleigh Lane, Leigh

United Utilities will be carrying out works to install a new meter and build a chamber near to The Railway Public House, from Monday 19th January 2015 to Friday 30th January 2015. In order to carry out these works temporary two way traffic lights will be in operation.

Princess Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield

United Utilities will be carrying out works to replace a manhole frame and cover near to the junction of York Road. This work will take place on Thursday 15th January 2015 to Monday 19th January 2015. In order for this work to be carried out safely, temporary two way traffic signals will be in operation during these works.

Chorley Road, Standish

British Telecom will be carrying out work to clear ducts near to the Jolly Mill Cottage. They will be working off peak from Monday 12th January 2015 to Wednesday 14th January 2015. Temporary two way traffic signals will be in operation.
