Roadworks bulletin

The aim of this bulletin is to give the public advance notice of road works in the Wigan Council area. The Council recognises that roadworks can cause inconvenience and it is hoped that this information helps to minimise delays and other problems associated with the works. Every effort has been made to provide accurate and the most up to date information available but it is not intended to be a definitive list and cannot cater for works carried out at short notice. The Council also reserves the right to make changes to the programme if emergencies arise.

1. Hough Lane, Tyldesley

The main construction works are substantially complete and the road has re-opened.  However TfGM will be carrying out works between Monday 5 January 2015 and Friday 3 July 2015. Temporary traffic signals will be in operation on a part time basis for heavy plant crossings.

2. Spinning Jenny Way, Leigh

The traffic signals at the new junction were switched on on Thursday 18th December 2014.

The vast majority of the 60 trees have been planted and the remaining ones will be installed early in the New Year.

Building of the bus stop lay-by adjacent to Tesco and the bus stop pole will be installed in January.

Works will recommence on Monday 5th January and should be completed within the month.

3. Mealhouse Lane, Atherton

Bus priority works are proposed in Atherton town centre. The roads that will be affected are Mealhouse Lane, Alma Street, Flapper Fold Lane, St John Street, Bolton Road and Water Street.

The main construction works are substantially complete, however there are some traffic signs and markings that still need to be completed.

Throughout the scheme the traffic management will change and updates will be provided.

4. Astley Street, Tyldesley

TfGM will be carrying out works between Upper George Street and Standish Street and in order to undertake these works safely single lane running will be in operation north bound from Astley towards Tyldesley, via use of a temporary roadway.

5. Railway Street, Tyldesley

Wigan Council will commence works on Monday 8 December 2014 to install parking bays on Railway Street and Lemon Street. These works are in conjunction with the Bus priority works.  The works are expected to be completed by 18 February 2015.

6. Holden Road, Leigh

TfGM will be carrying out works to construct the traffic controlled junctions near to Rosebury Avenue. In order to undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Monday 5 January 2015 and Friday 10 April 2015.

7. Well Street, Tyldesley

TfGM will be carrying out works to construct the traffic controlled junctions between Railway Passage and Garden Street. Temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Monday 5 January 2015 and Monday 27 July 2015.

8. Sale Lane, Tyldesley

TfGM will be carrying out the construction of plant protection works near to the junction with Chester Road. Temporary traffic signals will be in operation between Monday 5 January 2015 and Friday 13 March 2015 on a part time basis.

9. The Avenue / Hanover Street / Elmridge, Leigh

United Utilities will carry out major works to construct a rising main from Tuesday 26th August 2014. To undertake their works safely road closures will be in operation until the end of March 2015. 

The Avenue: A road closure will be in operation from outside of property number 202 to approximately 50m north of its junction with Elmridge from Monday 29th September 2014 until Monday 9th March 2015.

Hanover Street: A road closure will be in operation from the junction with The Avenue to the junction with Holden Road from Thursday 18th September 2014 until Thursday 6th March 2015

Elmridge: A road closure will be in operation from the junction with The Avenue to the Lions Bridge pumping station from Monday 5th January 2015 until 30th March 2015. Local diversions will be in place.

10. Westleigh Lane, Leigh

United Utilities will be carrying out works to install a new meter and build a chamber near to The Railway Public House, from Monday 19th January 2015 to Friday 30th January 2015. In order to carry out these works temporary two way traffic lights will be in operation.

11. Orrell Road/Junction with M6 link road

Temporary traffic signals will be in operation from the 19th January 2015 for two weeks whilst contractors install ducting at the junction with the link road.

12. Leigh Road, Hindley Green

United Utilities will be carrying out work to clean existing mains from 7pm Tuesday 27th January 2015. To carry out these works safely they will be using two way temporary traffic lights.

13. Preston Road, Standish **Emergency Road Closure**

United Utilities will be carrying out emergency repairs to a sewer pipe across the carriageway 60 metres north of number 419. Unfortunately, due to the dangerous state of the roadway it is necessary to close the road from Tuesday 27th January 2015 until it is made safe. The duration of the works is as yet unknown but will be completed as soon as is possible. A diversion will be put in place.

14. Lily Lane, Bamfurlong

British Telecom will be carrying out work to install 25 metres of poly ducting in the footway from Wednesday 28th January 2015 to Tuesday 10th February 2015. To ensure this work is done safely, temporary two way traffic signals will operate during off peak times from opposite the post office to opposite number 71.

15. Hall Lane, Aspull

United Utilities will be carrying out work to repair a leaking main in the footway near to number 176 from Tuesday 27th January 2015 to Thursday 29th January 2015. In order for this work to be done safely, two way traffic signals will be in operation during the off peak periods.

16. Bolton Road, Aspull

United Utilities are carrying out emergency repair work to a burst water main near to number 377. The work is expected to last until Thursday 29th January and requires the use of two way traffic signals which will be manned at peak times.

17. Plank Lane, Leigh

A private contractor will be undertaking sewer connection works near to the junction with Crankwood Road  from Monday 9 February 2015 until Monday 23 February 2015.  In order for the works to be undertaken safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation and they will be manned at peak periods.

18. Riverway, Wigan

A private contractor will be undertaking works to the illuminated signs on Debenhams  from 22:00hrs Wednesday 4 February 2015 until 06:00hrs Thursday 5 February 2015.  In order for the works to be undertaken safely a lane closure will be in place.

 

Forthcoming roadworks and closures

Bridge Street, Hindley

A road closure will take place on Sunday 8th February 2015 to enable United Utilities to replace a dangerous manhole cover and frame. A signed diversion will be in place.

Diversion route: Castle Hill Road, Wigan Road (Westhoughton), Cricketers Way (Westhoughton), Leigh Road (Daisy Hill), Lower Leigh Road (Daisy Hill), Schofield Lane (Atherton), Smallbrook Lane, Corner Lane, Atherton Road, Market Street.

Whelley, Wigan

National Grid Gas will be carrying out work to install a service to new properties under construction near to Vine Street from Friday 20th February 2015 to Sunday 22nd February 2015. To carry out these works safely, two way traffic signals will be in operation. Signals will be manned throughout the works duration.

Gathurst Road, Orrell

A road closure will take place for five consecutive nights from 22:00 to 05:00 starting on Monday 16th February to enable repairs to the railway bridge. The diversion will be: Orrell Road, Ormskirk Road, Roin Park Road, Scot Lane, Woodhouse Drive, Wigan Lower Road, Church Lane, Broad O’th Lane and Gathurst Lane.

Warrington Road, Wigan

Wigan Leisure & Cultural Trust will be undertaking landscaping works on the roundabout at the junction with Little Lane between Monday 2 February 2015 and Friday 6 February 2015.  In order to undertake these works safely a lane closure will be in place.

Chorley Road, Standish

United Utilities will be carrying out work to install 50 metres of new water main near to Bores Meadow. The work will take place from Monday 2nd February 2015 to Friday 13th February and will require the use of two way traffic signals, which will be manually operated during peak periods.

BT will be carrying out work near to Devon Drive and Rectory Lane on Sunday 1st March 2015 for one day only. In order to carry out the work safely, temporary traffic signals will be in operation.

Golborne Road, Lowton

United Utilities will be carrying out work to repair a leaking service in the footway outside number 25. To do this work safely two way traffic signals will be in operation. The work will take place on Sunday 8th February 2015 for one day only.

Downall Green Road, Ashton in Makerfield

Electricity North West will be carrying out work from the junction of Wilton Street to opposite number 8 from Friday 6th February 2015 to Thursday 19th February 2015. Multi way temporary signals will be in operation during the course of the work and will be manned during peak periods.

Almond Brook Road, Standish

Two way temporary traffic signals will be in operation from Monday 9th February 2015 to Wednesday 11th February 2015 whilst United Utilities replace a dangerous manhole frame and cover. The work will take place in the carriageway outside number 204 during off peak periods.

Pepper Lane, Standish

United Utilities will be replacing a dangerous manhole frame and cover in the carriageway near to 66B from Monday 9th February 2015 to Wednesday 11th February 2015. In order to do this safely temporary two way traffic signals will be in operation.

Nook Lane, Golborne

A private contractor will be undetaking utility connection works to a new development near to the junction with Tanners Lane between Monday 2 March 2015 and Friday 13 March 2015.  In order to undertake these works safely temporary traffic signals will be in operation and they will be manned at peak periods.
