Chart

Description:

Percentage of new homes built on previously developed land

Performance in 2006-07

Our target was 75.

We achieved 96.

"Bigger is better" so we are better than target.

When we compare our 2006-07 results with the latest results (2005-06) for other metropolitan councils, we are in the best 25%.

Performance is better than last year.

Comments on our performance in 2006-07

Most of the land that comes forward for new housing development is previously developed land and in addition permission will not be granted for sites which are greenfield when previously developed sites are available (in accordance with Policy R1B of the UDP). This, together with the fact that the passage of time has meant older greenfield sites with planning permission have been built out, has resulted in the target of 75% of new homes to be built on previously developed land being greatly exceeded.
