A new one-stop shop in the heart of Leigh is open for business and ready to provide all the answers to Life’s big questions.
Many people in our borough will now be aware of the exciting Life Centre development in Wigan Town Centre, which will provide a 21st century contact point not just for the council, but other organisations such as the health service.
Well it doesn’t end in Wigan because the council is bringing new ‘Life’ to townships across the borough in the shape of brand new customer service centres.
The first one to open was in Marsh Green and it’s already proving to be a big hit with the community. This week, it was followed by Leigh’s very own Life Centre based at Leigh Town Hall.
Gone are the cash offices – they’ve been moved to another part of the building – in their place on the ground floor is a brand new information ‘hub’ where customers can get quick answers about how to access a wide range of council and other public services.
Wigan Council’s Cabinet Champion for Customer Service, Cllr Chris Ready says: “The local Life Centres are community versions of the Wigan centre and they offer a one-stop shop for all public services. The council works for all the people of the borough and we’re committed to improving our customer service to make sure people get exactly what they need.”
The Leigh Life Centre is the bright, fresh and has been colourfully designed. There is a new reception area with trained staff on hand to help. There are one-to-one inquiry desks, computer terminals for internet use, a free-to-use ‘hot phone’ to help resolve any queries the Life Centre staff are unable to answer and there are two meeting rooms that can be used by local groups.
On top of this there will be a staffed Health Information Desk managed by NHS Ashton, Leigh and Wigan – the local Primary Care Trust.
Cllr Ready adds: “The new Life Centres will make it easier for residents to contact us and will help everyone get more out of their council.”
The Leigh Life Centre is situated on the ground floor of Leigh Town Hall and serves communities in Leigh and Atherleigh. It is open each weekday from 9am until 5pm.
