Carers and members of the carers forums are invited to join Wigan Council Social Care services to have their say on the future of social care.
In Wigan borough there are 47,000* known carers, that’s almost 1 in 6 of the borough population.
The Carers’ Personalisation Event will take place on Thursday November 12 at DW (formerly JJB) stadium between 10am and 2.30pm.
Social Care is being transformed across the UK to give increased choice and flexibility to carers and people being cared for. Informative presentations about the transformation of social care and how this will affect carers, personal budgets and direct payments will be delivered throughout the day.
The series of presentations will be followed by a Q&A session which will act as a two way communication process between carers and the council. It will facilitate the involvement of carers in shaping future policy and practice with regard to support available to them.
Forums also provide an opportunity for carers to share experiences and discuss relevant issues.
Wigan Council’s Cabinet Champion for Health Communities, Cllr Keith Cunliffe says: “I would like to encourage all carers to sign up and come along and have their say. Carers have a valuable contribution to make and experiences to share not just with the Council but with fellow carers. I really hope they take this opportunity of having their say on issues which may be affecting them.
“Individual assessments will help Wigan Council Social Care Services to understand what level of specific care package is best.
“Once individual assessments have taken place a team of experts will be on hand to deliver your own personal care package that’s specifically designed for you, by you.”
