THE borough’s unsigned bands are being urged to submit their applications to appear at this year’s Haigh Music Festival.
Organised by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust (WLCT), funded by the Wigan Borough Partnership, it’s the eighth year running the borough’s talented musicians will have the chance to play in front of 7,000 plus people.
Chris Wyatt, Arts and Festivals co-ordinator for WLCT, said: “The word is already out there that this year’s Haigh Fest event will kick start the 'Tuned-In' concert series which will see some of the best bands in the UK play in Wigan over five days.
“We’ve already been inundated with requests for application forms so this year we're starting the selection process off even earlier.
“There is a fantastic music scene in Wigan and Leigh and we want to see those top acts gracing what will be the biggest stage to date and there’s sure to be a lot of competition for places.”
This year’s Haigh Music Festival will take place on Sunday July 4.
To be eligible for selection, bands - and solo artists - must meet certain criteria including being resident to the borough, playing their own music (no covers), they cannot have played at last year’s festival and they must submit a demo.
Chris added: “If you think you’ve got what it takes to hit the big stage this year, simply download, print off and fill in the Haigh Festival Application form and send it in with a demo CD containing a minimum of your two best tracks.
“And who knows where it could propel your band.”
All submissions must arrive no later than Monday 26 April 2010. A panel made up of key music scene people will meet to select this year’s line-up and successful acts will be notified soon after.
Please send demos to Haigh Festival Demos, Arts and Festivals, Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, Haigh Hall, Copperas Lane, Haigh, WN2 1PE.
