Singer David Julien is set to make a special appearance at Wigan’s biggest ever business event.
The Leigh performer, who reached the finals of TV talent show The Voice, will attend Wigan Expo Twenty12 in support of his friend Mandy Summerscales, who is running a stall at the event.
Mandy owns independent fashion boutique Fashion PA and is one of 130 local businesses exhibiting at Expo. David will be helping out on her stall as well performing songs throughout the day.
The pair became friends after David sang at several fashion shows Mandy organised. He even helps out at her shop on Bradshawgate in Leigh.
David says: “Mandy’s business is close to where I live. She saw me sing and invited me to perform at some of her events and do some gigs for her. We’ve become friends and now I help out with Fashion PA if she needs me.
“I’m looking forward to the Expo. I’ll be singing and doing my bit to help the stall. I think the Expo is a really good idea. It’s important we all support local businesses.
David shot to fame when he was chosen as one of the final singers on The Voice, the BBC talent search featuring Sir Tom Jones and Jessie J as judges. Since the show was broadcast earlier in the year, David has been busy recording material and performing his own gigs.
Mandy was named entrepreneur of the year at the Wigan Business awards. She is attending the Expo for the first time this year. She says: “I’m really excited about it. We are planning something special for our stall. It’s going to look quite spectacular and glamorous. And it’ll be great to have David singing for everyone.
“I think the Expo is a great idea. We’re keen to make contacts and speak to businesses we can work with in the future.”
Over a thousand people are expected at Wigan Expo Twenty12. Among the companies attending are AB World Foods, Pooles Pies and Wigan Athletic. It’s the biggest business event ever held in the borough and one of the largest events of its kind in the North West. It will take place on Friday, October 12, 8am to 3pm at DW Stadium and is free to attend. In addition to networking opportunities and independent expert advice for businesses, the event will also include:
- An exhibition of over 130 local businesses
- A programme of high profile speakers
- A chance for local businesses to meet buyers
