Wigan Council’s cash offices at The Civic Centre (Wigan) and Leigh Town Hall will close on Friday 30 March.
After this date, residents who cash cheques at these offices will need to make alternative arrangements to pay their council bills.
Bills for Council Tax, Business Rates, Careline service, housing rent, social services, parking fines and any general invoices can all be paid using Wigan Council’s secure online payment system. To find out more about paying your council bill online through the 'Pay It' section of the council's website.
Council bills can also be paid by debit or credit card by phone using the bill payment hotline. Call this automated service at any time on 01942 489006.
The initial decision was approved by Wigan Council’s Cabinet last year and the council has been making its customer aware of the plans since then.
Wigan Council’s Cabinet Member for Customer Service Cllr Chris Ready says: “The council is working to modernise the delivery of its services and that includes payment options for our borough residents. We aim to offer payment options that are both simple and efficient. In doing this, we will be able to make significant savings, that can be redirected towards other important projects and services in the borough.
