THREE north west authors will be appearing at the new Wigan Life Centre Library in February to mark National Libraries Day.
Cath Staincliffe, who created TV police drama Blue Murder, will be appearing on Saturday 4 February at 2pm. Blue Murder starred Caroline Quentin as Detective Inspector Janine Lewis and ran for five series.
Author of Mr Wroe's Virgins, Jane Rogers, will be speaking at the library on Friday 3 February at 2pm. Jane has published eight novels, written original television and radio drama, and adapted work for radio and TV. Her novels also include Island and The Voyage Home.
Robert Graham will be discussing his short comedy love story called A Man Walks into a Kitchen on Thursday 2 February at 6pm. Robert is a creative writing tutor at MMU who wrote a sell-out play about The Smiths, a fictional biography of Elvis, and has co-written guides to help people to hone their writing skills.
Organiser Carole Ogden from Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust said: “These are some of the best writers in the north west so we’re extremely delighted to be hosting such high profile visits.
“This is all about celebrating local talent and inspiring others. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to meet and chat with some of the north west’s finest.”
The author visits are part of 30 events taking place across the region’s libraries, in a series of talks organised by the north west libraries reading partnership - Time To Read – called Here and Now: New North West writing in North West Libraries.
Reading groups across the region have been asked to read a selection of recent titles by North West writers. These titles range from personal poetry to fiction inspired by memory as well as imagination.
National Libraries Day takes place on Saturday 4 February with events taking place across the country to promote library use.
Tickets cost £2 per event or £4 for all three. For more information contact 01942 827 621 or visit Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust's website Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust's website (external link).
