Wigan’s excellent Sports Development Unit is riding on the “Quest” of a wave.
The team, who develop and run a range of activities to encourage young people to participate in sports and physical activity, are amongst the best in the business – and that’s official!
The 30 strong team, part of Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, recently spent two days being assessed by the UK’s Sport and Leisure industry’s quality standard award - Quest.
And with a score of 87 per cent they’re officially “excellent”.
Lynsey Randall, Principal Sports Development Manager for Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust said:
“This is a fantastic achievement for the team and a reflection of the hard work, commitment and enthusiasm shown by all our team members throughout the year.
“We will now strive to improve on our score to ensure we continue to deliver the best possible service for the people of Wigan and Leigh.”
Only three teams have ever been awarded an excellent grading following their first Quest assessment.
While their top score makes them the best in the North West for a first time assessment and second in the UK.
The accreditation defines industry standards and good practice, encouraging continuous improvement through strong management plans focused on good customer service.
The report by Quest assessor Jenny Kempster, who has conducted more than 100 Quest assessments, commended the Robin Park Arena based team’s clear strategic direction and strong corporate links.
Wigan’s Sports Development Team was described as “dynamic, committed, friendly and professional - a team you want to be part of ”.
The report goes on to state that the team’s ethos and atmosphere is “extremely positive” and that they are in an excellent position to deliver physical opportunities across Wigan.
The team plays an important role in delivering Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust’s wider vision to ‘Get Wigan Active’. They have an extensive programme of delivery in schools and throughout the community, support coaches, volunteers and talented athletes to reach their full potential.
Lynsey added:
“This is an exciting time for sport in Wigan in the lead up to 2012 and the team is proud to be at the heart of ensuring the young people in Wigan receive the best possible sporting experience."
