The requests for places for the borough’s very own version of Question Time have been coming in…but there’s still room for a few more.
As part of Local Democracy Week, which runs from Monday October 15 until Sunday, October 21, Wigan Council will be re-creating the famous television debating chamber right here in the borough.
BBC North West news reporter Dave Guest will be in the chair for the evening acting as compere.
Organisers are currently drawing up a panel consisting of elected members, community leaders and opinion formers, who will answer questions on a range of topical issues.
The council is now renewing its call for people to sit in the audience and listen to and take part in the debate. The closing date for entries has been extended to Monday October 8.
Event organiser and council policy officer Simon Dale explains:
“Local Democracy Week is all about encouraging people to find out more about their council and the work of their elected representatives and to have their say on issues that affect them. So the Question Time forum is an ideal way to get everyone together and to get them talking. But of course the most important part of Question Time is the audience. We’ve got just 75 seats in the Council Chamber for members of the public who want to take part and pose testing questions on the hot topics of the day. We’ve had a positive response so far but still have seats available so please get your requests for places in.”
