Wigan's Remembrance Sunday parade details

Leigh Cenotaph.

It's 90 years since the guns fell silent at the end of World War 1, and Wigan Mayor Cllr Rona Winkworth is encouraging residents to commemorate the borough's brave servicemen and women at Remembrance Sunday events taking place across the borough on November 9th.

Services are taking place at:

Abram

Parade leaves St John’s School, Simpkin Street at 10.15 am, passing along Warrington Road for service at 10.30 am in St John’s Parish Church.

Ashton

Procession leaves The Beeches, Wigan Road at 10.00 am, halting at the Garswood Hall war memorial at 10.15 am before service at St Thomas’, Warrington Road, at 10.50 am. After the service wreaths will be laid at the cenotaph.

Aspull

Service at the war memorial, Finger Post, at 10.50 am. Processions leave Sumner Street HQ of the British Legion at 10.45 am and Cale Lane HQ of the New Springs Soldiers and Sailors Club at 10.25 am

Atherton

Parade leaves Formby Hall at 10.30 am for the cenotaph on Leigh Road/ Hamilton Street, pausing en route at the Baptist Church Memorial on Tyldesley Road. Afterwards the parade will return to Formby Hall.

Golborne

Service at war memorial, Barn Lane at 2.30 pm, attended by the Mayor. Procession leaves Legh Court car park, Legh Street at 2.15 pm. The Mayor, Cllr Rona Winkworth, will lay a wreath on behalf of the council.

Hindley

Procession leaves Cross Street at 10.45 am, halting at the cenotaph before service at All Saints Church. Parade will return to the town hall car park after the service.

Ince

Service at the cenotaph in Ince Cemetery, Lower Ince at 10.15 am followed by services at St Mary’s Church at 10.30 am, Ince Parish Church at 10.45 am and at 12 noon in the Garden of Remembrance, Smithy Green

Leigh

Parade leaves Marsh Gymnasium, Ullswater Street at 10.30 am and proceeds via Railway Road, Market Street, Lord Street, Charles Street and Church Street. for service at the cenotaph in Church Street Gardens. The Deputy Mayor Cllr Mark Aldred will attend the service and lay a wreath on behalf of the council.

Lowton

Service at St Mary`s Church, Newton Road at 10.30 a.m. Assemble in the school yard at 10.20 am

Platt Bridge

Parade assembles at the cenotaph on Liverpool Road at 10.50am for the laying of wreaths, followed by service at St Nathaniel's Parish Church.

Shevington

Act of Remembrance at the war memorial, Church Lane, at 10.45 am followed by service at St Anne’s Church.

Standish

Parade leaves Cross Street at 10.35am for Service of Remembrance at the War Memorial, High Street/ Church Street, followed by service at St Wilfrid’s Church.

Tyldesley

Parade leaves Market Square at 10.25 am for service at the cenotaph in Tyldesley cemetery. Afterwards the parade will return to the Market Square.

Wigan

Parade leaves Town Hall in Library Street at 10.30 am for service at the war memorial in All Saints’ Gardens at 11 am, followed by a service at Wigan Parish Church. The Mayor, Cllr Rona Winkworth, will attend.
