The council’s recycling team is out on the road again, and it wants to hear from you.
Officers will be in Wigan and Leigh to promote green issues and discuss the council’s waste management strategy with residents.
Wigan Council’s waste management expert, Dr Gail Robinson, says:
“We’re looking ahead to how we all manage our rubbish, and need to hear from you.”
The council last published its plans for managing household rubbish in 2006, following public consultation. A year later the Government released the ‘Waste Strategy for England 2007’. Although the two documents are very similar, there’s an obligation to revise the Wigan document and consult again.
The document includes plans to improve service at the borough’s household waste recycling centres, tougher national targets to achieve and an expansion of bin recycling services for many residents.
The team will be available at:
- Wigan town centre (near Halifax on Standishgate) – 8 December 10am-4pm
- Leigh town centre (near Abbey on Bradshawgate) – 9 December 10am-4pm

Deputy Leader of the Council, Cllr David Molyneux says:
“People should be able to have a voice on how their household waste is managed. We all produce rubbish, we need to hear your views about how it is disposed of.”
The consultation runs from Tuesday November 25 to Tuesday February 17, 2009, and other events are planned.
